Your morning ritual deserves something real

Not just a mug.
morning ritual.

There's a moment when you wrap your hands around a Gmundner mug — the weight of it, the warmth coming through the glaze — where you feel the difference between a manufactured object and something genuinely made.

Up to 60 pairs of hands touch each piece before it reaches yours. Flaming — the technique of applying paint through a piping process — is so rare it's recognized by UNESCO. You cannot learn it in a weekend. It takes years.

How a Gmundner
mug is born.

Natural Raw Materials

Feldspar, quartz, and kaolin — sourced from the Black Forest in Germany — are blended using a centuries-old in-house recipe into the liquid mass that becomes your mug.

Hand-shaped, Hand-painted

After casting and turning, each handle is attached individually. Then comes the flaming — UNESCO-recognized, impossible to automate, done only in Gmunden. Two years of training to master it.

Twice-Fired at 1,000°C

Each piece is fired twice — once without glaze (biscuit firing), once with glaze and colour applied. Each firing takes over 12 hours. This is what gives Gmundner its signature deep, vibrant white.

The morning afterthe first sip.

"I bought the Häferl on a whim and now I can't drink coffee from anything else. My old mugs feel hollow by comparison."

JAMES W.

"The Espresso for 2 gift set was the most commented-on gift I've ever given. The couple still messages me about it six months later."

LÉA P.

Montréal, QC

"Austrian quality is real. I grew up with Gmundner at my grandparents' house and finding it in Canada felt like a small miracle."
