The Edelweiss Collection brings together Austria and Vermont through a shared appreciation of heritage, craftsmanship and hospitality.

During her September 2026 visit to Austria for the opening of the new Sound of Music Museum in Salzburg, Kristina von Trapp returned to Gmundner Keramik to celebrate the partnership. The granddaughter of Maria von Trapp, whose story inspired The Sound of Music, had first visited the manufactory in February 2025. That introduction to Austria’s ceramic tradition has since grown into a collaborative collection.

A flower connecting two homes

At the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort in Vermont, Austrian roots remain part of everyday hospitality. The edelweiss motif connects those roots with the family’s American home: the Austrian Alps and Vermont’s Green Mountains.

Created for the lodge’s 75th anniversary, the collection began with a cup and a heart-shaped bowl, made and painted by hand in Gmunden. A new beer stein now extends the collection, reflecting the Austrian brewing traditions continued by von Trapp Brewing.

Traditions we bring to the table

A favourite cup can hold more than a morning coffee. It can recall a place, a person or the welcome that made a journey memorable. That is part of the pleasure of choosing objects with a story—and continuing to use them.

As Thanksgiving approaches, this collaboration offers a lovely prompt to think about the traditions we share at home. A familiar recipe, a favourite serving dish and a place set for one more guest can make the gathering our own. The objects we bring to the table become part of those memories, year after year.
